When a body washes up on the pier at Ardmore Bay, Detective Rosa Quill expects a drowning. What she finds instead is a town that has quietly agreed on a version of events, and a fishing community whose silence has been rehearsed for years.

The first Harbour Line novel is a procedural about the things small communities decide not to say aloud, and about a detective who is frequently, and expensively, wrong.

The town is the real character

Quill is good but the town is better. I have been to places exactly like Ardmore Bay and Brennan gets the silence right.

Slow start, worth it

The first sixty pages take their time. After that I read it in two sittings.
