Fiction Publishing Packages

Novels live or die on pacing, voice and a cover that tells a reader in two seconds what kind of book they are holding. These packages are weighted towards those three things.

Illustration representing fiction publishing packages

When a novelist compares publishing packages, the question that matters is not how many services are bundled — it is how much editorial attention the manuscript gets before anyone starts typesetting it.

Fiction has failure modes that production alone cannot fix. A middle act that sags. A protagonist whose motivation shifts without the reader being told why. Dialogue that all sounds like the same person. A viewpoint that slips between scenes. None of these are caught by a proofreader, because none of them are errors — they are decisions that are not yet working.

That is why we steer most novelists towards Craft or Signature rather than Foundation. Foundation is the right choice if you have already been through a serious edit elsewhere, or if you are publishing a later book in an established series and know your own patterns. If this is your first novel, the copyedit in Craft will change the book more than anything else you can buy.

On the design side, genre fiction is unusually rule-bound. Readers browsing a thriller category are pattern-matching against a hundred covers a minute, and a jacket that ignores those conventions reads as amateur even when it is beautiful. Our cover process for fiction starts with a study of what the current category leaders are doing, so your designer is working with the conventions deliberately rather than accidentally.

Where to weight your budget

What matters most for fiction

1

Editorial depth over service count

A copyedit changes your novel more than any other line item. Weight your budget there first.

2

Genre-literate cover design

Your cover has to signal category before it signals anything else. Ours are briefed against current category research.

3

eBook quality matters most

Most genre fiction sells digitally. A clean, well-typeset EPUB is not an afterthought for a novelist.

4

Series-ready production

If this is book one, we set up design templates and metadata so book two costs less and matches visually.

All four packages
